Photoshoot Julia Galaktionova 2025 – Sci-Fi Portrait Series

🎭 Concept & Context

My third professional photo session approached as an experimental exploration of character, costume, and photographic presence. Oulu-based photographer Julia Galaktionova presented two thematic directions for practice; I selected the futuristic sci-fi concept, which immediately resonated with my aesthetic interests and creative practice.

What began as a modeling exercise quickly evolved into a shared visual dialogue.

📸 Process & Performance

The shoot functioned as a live exchange of presence and intention. Rather than holding static poses, I treated each frame as a moment of character work — adjusting posture, gaze, and spatial relationship with the lens to match the narrative tone.

Over the course of the session, I noticed how closely modeling parallels acting: presence shifts directly with comfort, focus, and emotional investment. The more deeply I grew into the role, the more dynamic and vivid the resulting images became.

🔮 Creative Insight & Outcome

Working alongside Julia fostered immediate rapport and a shared visual language that translated into sharp, expressive portraits.

The session reinforced my understanding of photography not as documentation alone, but as a performative exchange — where costume, concept, and conscious presence collaborate to shape identity on paper and screen.

It also marked a turning point in how I approach future shoots: less about "posing," more about embodying the space between camera and subject.
