Reformi Art × Oulu Sound Collective
Opening Performance → Ongoing Sound Installation
Arkkivisio Exhibition, 2025 · Taka-Lyöty, Oulu
📍 Venue & Context
The third iteration of the Reformi Art multidisciplinary exhibition transformed the former Postipankki building in Taka-Lyöty into a living stage for artistic occupation. Constructed in 1977 and historically serving as a payment services center, a university of applied sciences unit, and later a business hub, the concrete structure was scheduled for demolition. Rather than erasing its legacy, Arkkivisio invited artists, performers, and visitors to reclaim it floor by floor—turning bureaucratic decay into a spatial dialogue where architectural memory, institutional ghosts, and creative intervention merge.
🔊 OSC's Contribution
The Oulu Sound Collective was invited to contribute an opening performance that quickly evolved into an ongoing sound art installation for the duration of the exhibition. Instead of framing the building with a fixed narrative, we left the sonic layer active: continuously responding to, interacting with, and reframing the space's lingering administrative aura and its newly claimed creative life. The work blurred the line between concert, environment, and architectural score.
🌀 Conceptual Focus
Aligned with Arkkivisio's core inquiry, the installation explores the aesthetics of bureaucracy, layered architectural memory, and the slow disintegration of built environments. By placing sound within decaying offices, archive remnants, and transitional corridors, the work asks: Do we shape our urban surroundings, or does living inside them quietly reshape us? Visitors moved through dilapidated structures where people, art, and institutional history overlapped—turning passive listening into spatial navigation.
