Perunateatteri 2026
Dadaist Potato Poetry & Carved Text Performance
Open Mic Night, Kellarikollektiivi 4th Anniversary · SnookerTime Oulu, Finland
🥔 Concept & Statement
Modern poetry often leans toward seriousness as a coping mechanism for an increasingly unpredictable world. While I fully respect that approach, I find myself drawn to Dadaism’s original impulse: when reality itself fractures into absurdity, art can respond with nonsense, play, and radical lightness.
Perunateatteri (Potato Theater) explores the possibility of finding sense within senselessness. Carved directly into real potatoes, the poem treats "peruna" not just as a noun, but as verb and adjective—a linguistic experiment in Finnish, a language I am still learning. The piece functions as therapeutic absurdity: instead of mirroring despair, it celebrates the joyful chaos of meaning-making.

🎭 Performance & Documentation
Originally staged during the Kellarikollektiivi 4th anniversary open mic night at SnookerTime Oulu, Perunateatteri transforms a simple agricultural staple into a medium for absurdist theater and linguistic play. The performance treats the carved potatoes as both script and prop, blurring the line between culinary object, poetic text, and Dadaist artifact.
